Itches

The process of stretching takes some serious time and commitment, we know.

What I never quite get used to is the various forms of pain that can be associated with the process. I know that you need to pull gently over a long period of time and if you pull too hard you need to scale back the effort. But the truth is… when you stretch like this, especially at night (when you can’t monitor things so well) and when you remove the tape, it can itch!

The pain I guess comes from the tears in the skin. If I can get tape back onto the area after removing it, I can avoid some of the longer-term itching that may occur if I leave it off.

I’m mentioning this because I just want others to know that it does occur and I hope it’s normal. The reason I’m mentioning it today is because this week my wife has been reading about “itchy skin” associated with her stomach expanding during pregnancy. (!) I know what that’s about. I don’t expect it will be quite the same (pulling off gooey sticky tape) but I can imagine that the tears are going to drive her nuts the same way they drive me bonkers some days.

But I don’t usually feel bad for long. Eventually whatever it is heals and then everything is back to sort of normal. Or if it happens when I’m asleep, I undo the hook on the clip and relieve the pulling pressure. Eventually it goes back to normal.

So I think overall it’s a good thing. But know, it does itch!
